We had a fabulous Thanksgiving, spent with both sides of the family. Feel very blessed to have so much family close by that we get to celebrate with.

Finn turned 2!

Finn is quite the little man. He weighs 31 lbs (same as Ruby), we've started potty training but it's a hit and miss so we will just keep working. His vocabulary has tripled in the last week. Love having talking kids!! He knows his colors and loves trains, guys (wrestling men), and books. Mommy and Daddy love you little buddy! Thank you for blessing our lives so very much! xoxoxox

It's been far too long....Here is a quick recap

Casey started his first year teaching a Seven Oak Middle School. He is teaching 8th grade wellness (health and PE) and loving it. We are enjoying having him home in the evenings and on weekends. He is also coaching basketball this year. New adventures all around...I'm very proud of him.

Miss Ruby started preschool and Punkin Seed. I was so nervous/anxious/sad but Miss Linda and Miss Lori have made the experience nothing but perfection. Ruby loves every second of it and I'm loving the experience as well!

It went by way too fast. We enjoyed spending time with our loved ones and the kids had a blast...well Ruby did. Finn was a hit and miss, he really needs his sleep.

First I must say I really stink at keeping this blog up, but I really want to get better....I do not scrapbook so this is my only way of remembering cool events....

Ok, so Finn turned 1 on the 2oth....it was a busy weekend with a dance competition on the same day, Beaver game and Casey's mom and sister and family were/are in Haiti so we had decided we would wait and celebrate on Thanksgiving, and again when the family returns from Haiti.

Finn's 12 month stats:
Weight: 25lbs
Height: 31 inches
Favorite things: eating, cuddling, head butting, climbing, dancing and playing with his sissy

Finn is our cuddle boy. He loves hugs and kisses! He gets really excited over the smallest things and laughs all the time. He really is a joy to be around but he definitely is a mommy's boy :) I don't mind one bit! He has been walking for awhile now, but he still crawls too.

Wow I'm behind....Ruby turned 3, October 1st and we celebrated. She had a blast. A few outfit changes, lots of friends, and yummy food, oh and no rain!! It was a success. I just can't believe she's 3!

Wow it's been a LLOONNNGGG time. I guess we've been busy, but not really. It may or may not be because of the excessive time spent on facebook...ooops :) Well anyways we have been going through some pretty exciting changes...

Casey:
- Quit his job to finish his masters
-Started student teaching at a local k-8th grade school, he's really enjoying the little ones
-p90xing it, i wont post photos but dang he looks good (he will kill me when he reads this, i'm just a proud supportive wife)
-Enjoying all his free time now that he isn't a slave to at&t

Ruby:
-so so so independent
-really enjoying learning to read and spell
-loving being a big sister
-turning 3 in a few weeks and has requested a batman party, sure why not

Finn:
-LOVES food, seriously its crazy
-crawls like crazy
-stands, and walks behind things

So the sun finally comes out and my kiddos decide to get sick :( .... so sad! It started last Thursday with Ruby acting a little out of character. See she is quite the chatter box as of late, and my dad decide to walk her home from our towns "Thursday Market" and the whole way home she didn't say a word. That night she told me she was tired and going to bed at like 8:30, she usually will try to stay up till at least 10:30 (I know bad). Then when I got up to check on Finn, Ruby was blazing hot, I took her temp and it was 104.1! Finn has been our more sickly child not Ruby. Ruby has had 1 other fever and a few running noses here and there, but nothing too extreme. Anyhow all Friday, Saturday and Sunday Ruby pretty much slept and watched movies. Her fever never really went down even with medication. Then Monday came and Finn woke up at 4 am!!! with a fever and nasty cough. I decided to go see the doctor and Casey's hunch was right the kids have croup :( Ruby is on the mends and Finn is doing better today so hopefully tomorrow will be even better! Sick kids are so sad!!

IN OTHER NEWS.....

It's been awhile so I will give a quick update on everyone...

Casey:
- Crazy busy at work with the NEW IPhone (53 hr work weeks)
- Crazy busy with school, and his practicum for school
- Doing lots of small house projects that we all are enjoying :)

Ruby:
-Started swim lessons, not as much of a fan of swimming as she was last summer
-Loves her new swing set
-Won't sit still for more than 10 minutes (unless she's sick)

Finn:
-Growing SO fast (20.6lbs)
-Sits up, and gets from sitting to laying down just fine, but refuses to crawl. He'll just lay on his tummy and cry and kick his legs until someone helps him (usually Ruby)
- Loves to eat, his favorites are strawberries, bananas, spinach, and carrots. He does not like peas (I don't blame him I don't either)

Jess:
- Staying busy with kids, dance, and running
- In week 4 of the 16 week training plan for a full marathon (no plans to race a full, a half sounds way better)

this is the 3rd time I've blogged in 24 hrs...CRaaazzzzYYY! Ok so you all know Casey is in grad school, yes?! And he is doing awesome I might add, 4.0!! Way to go babe....anyways, his student teaching portion of his program is fast approaching and in attempt to cut out any unnecessary expenses (sense we will be a zero income family), and to simplify our lives so we can focus on the important things we have....

1. Sold our flat screen tv (yes this was all Casey's idea, cool huh)
2. Sold our pilot...got and outback, and now....
3. Bought a 1992 wagon....and going to sell our outback to get rid of all payments

Crazy....so much change but it feels good to have no car payments, well as soon as the outback sells!!!!

You are my hero! My wonderful parents and lovely husband purchased this exact stroller for me as an early birthday gift to help me with my "training"...haha. My goal is to do a half marathon this year. It was getting really difficult to get my long runs in with Casey's crazy schedule... sooooo the BOB was the best solution. Although I'm having to build my endurance up to run with a stroller (so much harder than it looks) it is really nice and convenient. I still enjoy running on my own every now and then, it's a good mental break for me. I totally zone out while running I love it :)

Also me and my running buddy are talking about doing the Vegas half....Dec. 6th if anyone else is interested :)

Tomorrow our little man turns 6 months! I can not believe he is already 1/2 a year!?!?! Where does time go? Finn is an absolutely terrific baby. Once he hit about 5 1/2 months he just seemed so much more content and happy! It's so nice. He goes to bed around 7:30 and wakes around 6-6:30 (yuck)...He's changing daily. Ruby loves that Finn can sit up and play with her now. She loves to get him toys and make him reach for them. Although he has been sitting up since about 5 months he still doesn't roll? I mean he will roll onto his side to grab something but he doesn't roll all the way over...weird!?!?! I'm sure he is pushy 20 lbs, he's nice and healthy.

Such a fun age right now. Ruby is really getting her own little personality and Casey and I seriously just laugh at her all day long. She is so imaginative, and creative. She has many imaginary friends, and I really never know when they are just going to show up! She loves to talk and explain things as she sees them. She is very outgoing, she must get that from Casey. She loves to play with other kids, and help me with Finn. Her favorite thing to say to Finn is, "Oh, no, no, no, no sweetie..." it cracks me up!

But, let me not forget about the nice tantrums she can throw too. Oh my, door slamming already?!?! YIKES, I know! I think we may be in trouble. Ruby definitely likes things to go her way. Thank goodness we can reason with her now, otherwise I'm not sure I would've survived the last few weeks. I got the book on CD ,"Have a New Kid by Friday" I'll let you know how Leman's strategies work out for us :)

Case and I have been very blessed with 2 amazing kids. Can't wait until they can actually "play" together :)

It's hard for me to believe that Finn is already 5 months old! He's changing and learning so fast! Let's see he sleeps great, only wakes up once during the night to eat. He's still super lazy, he'll scoot himslef around on the floor but really doesn't like to roll. No teeth yet, but I can feel them right under the surface. We think he will be getting his fangs first, just like Ruby did. He laughs all the time, squeals too. He's even a snorter, just like his momma. He loves to blow raspberries, which Ruby doesn't like too much (she thinks is gross to spit, good girl!) Oh and he weighs the exact same amount as my 11 month old niece! He really is a solid boy!

We are finally getting healthy in the VandenBos household. Finn came down with what I thought was just a nasty cold, but after staying up with him for 4 hrs on night 2 of his symptoms, screaming, crying, coughing (a nasty dry cough), and gasping for air we took him in to the doctor. I thought he would just work it out and be fine but nope. Doctor told me he had bronchitis and a touch of croup (which she also said he is a little young to get)... BOOoo...So after a steroid injection, and 5 days on an inhaler he seems to be on the up and up.

Finn is officially 4 months old! (like ago)

he weighed 16.2lbs at his check up (HUGE), and is 26 inches long!!! no wonder my back is killing me. He almost weighs as much as my 9 month old niece.

Let's see he is an amazing sleeper, and eater (no wonder he's so big), he loves to watch ruby play he laughs so hard whenever they play, i just love it. he's pretty lazy, he can roll over but really doesn't like to do it. he's a great little guy and we feel blessed to have him in our lives!

Some very tired coaches....what a full fun weekend!

Dance is officially over! My ladies did amazing I could not be more proud of their dedication, and talent. Lebanon took home 4th place! I'm going to miss my seniors, but I absolutely enjoyed every moment with them on team. What a beautiful group of girls I got the privilege of working with :) They impressed me daily! I wish I had a video to share, I always cheer too loud so I don't like sharing my video, hopefully it'll be on YouTube soon!!!

Lisa's beautiful team, West Albany...They put together a very impressive show, good job ladies!!

Coaches (minus one very import one, Barbie) and their trophies... I think it's more rewarding for me to place as a coach then it was as a dancer!!

After the first night...These 2 lovely ladies keep me grounded and focused! Love you both so much, coaching would not be the same without you! Your support is so encouraging!

Since Ruby is still too young to join a studio and mine is still a dream in the works I decided today would be her first ballet lesson...we focused on 1st position, and talked about turn out :0 She's a natural....So proud!

I've been spending all my free time researching and looking up grant opportunities for women business owners, and connecting with any and all people I know that would have advice for me on this new adventure. It's all so overwhelming. Once dance is over (March 20th) I think I'll have much more time to really think this over. So much to think about...how BIG do I really want to make this....rent, buy, lease...ugh! I just want a studio...I just want to teach the art of dance...I want people of all ages to be able to express themselves and get exercise through dance....I want to make a positive impact on my little community....I want kids that live here to have a fun, safe, clean place to come and learn about dance(everyone can dance...if you can wiggle you can dance).....is that too much to ask for? I wish I could snap my fingers and have a place.... why is this "business" stuff so overwhelming!!!???

I've wanted to open a dance studio ever since I moved back home after graduation, and once I started coaching the dream grew even more intense. I mean I love dance, and as it is I eat, sleep, and breathe dance....So why not expand my canvas?!... I have so many ideas, and I'm constantly telling my family how badly I want to do it, and after my conversation with my good friend, Jenna I just feel like I have to explore the idea more. I mean all it could be is completely too much, right?

Anyways I can't stop talking about it and Casey is tyring to read for class so I can't talk to him so... I thought I'd blog about it! If you have any advice/comments/concerns/ideas I'm open to it all!

If you live in my hometown I know we already have a studio (I too went there), but mine would be a lot!!!! different, I love variety and I love to dance so adult classes would be a must!

Busy...

The VandenBos household is borderline out-of-control. So busy lately. Casey has been working his normal 45 ish hour work week and going to school on top of that. I totally forgot how much reading school requires (boring). On a huge plus Casey absolutely loves his program. He doesn't hate going to class and he's really enjoying all of his reading thus far!

This week started my 6 solid weeks of dance 6 days a week! Good thing I love it :) But it is hard to leave the kiddos. Also, Casey's truck is finally in the shop getting fixed from his accident before Christmas....which means we are a 1 vehicle family this week....which is something we have thought about becoming once Casey starts teaching. I guess it's good practice. So far its worked out thanks to my dad :) It'll be much easier when Casey works in the same town, well at least I think it will be.

Kids are doing good. Finn is seriously a giant, he looks like a 4 month old, no joke. He is still having digestion issues, but we have figured them out. I just really have to watch my diet, dairy is not good for the boy. It has made me realize just how much I really do love cheese! His days are spent sleeping, eating and smiling. He really loves his sister, facing outward (while being held), to sit-up, and to take baths. The last 2 months have gone by too fast. Finn has definitely been a better sleeper than Ruby was, but he has also been a lot more fussy than Ruby was/is.

Ruby is amazing. She is growing up so fast. She says the funniest things. She loves to be naked too. She is always stripping her clothes off and she knows she is not suppose to unless they are dirty, so now she looks straight at me and says "the shirts yucky, mommy. It got dirty." then she runs and puts it in the hamper :) She's a great big sister and I absolutely love watching her interact with Finn.

Ok this took me 4 hrs to finish...I hope it make sense!

2 month check-up...

Finn is doing great....

weight: 12.4 lbs (70% for his age)

height: 24 inches (75% for his age)

He's sleeping like a champ only waking up once (on occasion twice) to nurse (so much better than Miss Ruby). He's smiling and cooing (finally). He blows lots of bubbles which is really just gas coming back up because of his reflux issues. His tear duct is still clogged :( it could take up to a year before it clears up. Casey and I both agree that Finn looks almost identical to Ruby when she was his age....only chubbier :) We're loving being a family of 4!!!

Ruby calls Jenna Johnny.... I'm not sure why, but what 2 year old needs a reason for anything they do, right?....

Anyhow Jenna/Johnny came and cooked a fabulous dinner for us and watched the Rooster while I (and Finn) had some dance stuff to go to. Ruby had so much fun! In fact she's still talking about Johnny and all the fun things they did together. Here's a few of the over 30 pictures Ruby and Jenna took together.....

It was absolutely hilarious Ruby would pose and tell Jenna when to take the picture, then she run over to Jenna and say "I see it!".....then she go pose again....and again...and again. She even posed her stuffed animals. Not to mention she had all the different faces down pat....happy, excited, sad....too funny. Thanks Jenna for entertaining her crazy ideas!!!

Finn update...

I think we are finally on the up swing....Finn is doing better as far as reflux goes. We now have to deal with his dairy intolerance :( I've been off all dairy for 5 days and we've seen small improvements with his gas issues. We just keep praying that he gets over this hump soon. I was thinking the other night that I have only seen my son smile a handful of times and needless to say I got pretty emotional. It's so difficult trying to rule out all the possible things that could be making a newborn so sad :(

Life is almost back to normal. Finn is doing better with his reflux. Feeding upright, burping often, and sleeping inclined seems to be helping him. He may have a food allergy though. Every time he nurses he breaks out in this bumpy red rash on his face and neck :( We will be doing some investigating on this.

long story short....Finn is colicky and has reflux...we don't sleep and Finn cries, oh wait I cry too. I've never felt so helpless :( On a positive note he is healthy and growing like a champ. We took him in to the doctors right before Christmas because he was projectile vomiting after he ate. They were able to rule out anything too serious (some really long terms for stomach problems...i don't remember them and I wouldn't be able to spell them either) because he is gaining weight so rapidly. If it was really serious he wouldn't be gaining (makes sense). Anyway he has colic (gas), and reflux :(....to help with his reflux we basically have to burp Finn during feedings (feed for a few min...burp...feed..burp...feed), he has to sit upright for 30 min after feedings, and he sleeps slightly inclined.... thankfully he isn't showing any intolerances to foods, which is really common for babies with reflux.

Christmas was good, Ruby had a blast! here's a few pictures from the last few days. I'll try to post more later....

We ventured out to Storybook Land in Albany last night followed by some yummy pizza and playtime at Pizza King. It was cold, but Ruby loved all the lights and stuffed animals. This girl has a true love for stuffed animals, she just loves them ALL.

Finn had his 2 week check-up (a little late, his pediatrician was on vacation). Anyways he's doing so well. I can't believe how much he has changed, and grown!!!

20 days old stats:

9.2lbs

22 inches long

Finn...

-sleeps a ton (4 hours at night!!!)

-eats a TON (obvious from the weight gain)

-has a clogged tear duct, poor guy

-loves to be in his sling

-has already attended more dance classes and competitions than most grown men!

We decided last minute (who really tries to make plans with a 2 week old) to head up to Portland for the zoo lights on Sunday. It was freezing, literally! But Ruby loved it! We rode the train which was really fun. Ruby loved pointing out all the animal figures. She was the entertainment for our fellow train riders, she had every one cracking up. After the train ride we literally ran from exhibit to exhibit to see all the animals...running was the only way to stay somewhat warm.

I'm just enjoying some quiet time (both kids are napping) and reflecting on the past 2 years.... I can not believe how blessed I am to be a mommy of 2. I've always wanted to be a mommy and sometimes I forget that I am really living my "dream". It's crazy...I have an amazing husband who sacrifices so so much for us, and 2 beautiful, healthy children. I'm a lucky lady. I GET to wake up every morning and play with my kids...sometimes I feel guilty for leaving at night for dance, but then I remember, I'm so lucky to get to stay home all day with them. I just pray that I am always purposeful with my time that I do have with them. I really want to show them what life is really all about. I want them to experience life and God's amazing love in their own way, I just hope that I can guide and encourage them in the right way! Oh man, being a mom is kind of a scary job when you really think about it.

Finn is doing good. He's sleeping well and eating like a champ! Ruby loves her "baby Finn" she showers him with kisses every chance she gets. Reality for me starts on Tuesday when daddy goes back to work :( it's been so nice to have him home. We've done a ton of fun family outings which has been so refreshing.

He is here!! Finn arrived November 20th at 5:33pm. He is a perfect addition to our family and we are so glad to finally be able to love on him. Labor was....well, it was labor. Contractions woke me up around 2 am on Friday, went to the gym at 5 am in hopes to speed the processes up...my water broke at 7:45ish....went to the hospital labored for what felt like was forever with very little progress (in my mind), got the epidural :)....still wasn't dilating (stuck at an 8), gave me pitocin....pushed for 35 min :) and Finn was here! 8.3 LBS (huge) 21 inches long!

Read on if you are interested in Finn's delivery......

Went to see my doctor this morning and I am 4 cm dilated, and still not in labor. What in the world!! I'm a little tired of them telling me labor will be "any day now". I'm ready now, well as ready as I can be. Anyways the doctor also told me it should be a pretty fast labor since I'm already dilating...but honestly what do doctors really know!!! On the plus side Casey is really hoping Finn holds off until the 17th (better for his work schedule and such) so at least one of us is getting their way!! I'm just so anxious to meet our son!!!!!!

Congratulations to my wonderful husband, he's officially a grad student! Casey will be entering the MAT program at George Fox University in January. I'm very proud of him for pursuing his goals. We're super excited for what this means for our family, and we trust that this is the direction and path that the Lord has laid out for us. We know we will have to make a lot of sacrifices for Casey to get through the 16 month program, but we're excited. The Lord is faithful :)

I'm up, it's early! I haven't been much of a early morning person since becoming a mommy but, for some reason I can't sleep...I think it may have something to do with a little man in my tummy.

Anyways progress on Finn's arrival for family and friends that wanna know....

- He's dropped as of last Friday....this is huge if you remember Ruby didn't drop until I was in active labor

- I've effaced and dilated some...which I know doesn't mean a whole lot but, it is good progress in the right direction :)

- The new maternity floor rules are bitter sweet. Only being able to have 2 guest, the same 2 guest for my entire stay is hard to take in. I think I'm most upset that Ruby wont be able to come see Finn at all in the hospital :( But I do appreciate all the safety measures that they are taking to make sure our little guy stays safe and healthy. I guess I'll just try to get as much rest as possible!

Well I'm just trying to stay active, lots of walking and such hoping that Finn will be ready for a safe healthy entrance soon! Really enjoying Ruby and soaking up the last few moments we have of being a family of 3!

Ok I'm almost 36 weeks (on Wednesday) and I'm feeling like labor could be soon. I think it's more wishful thinking than anything else but, hey, isn't there power in positive thinking?! I mean my mom was 2 weeks early with me :) I'm feeling sorta ready....

- Car seat purchased (not here yet, should be next week). We borrowed Caylan and Trav's infant seat for Ruby so we had to buy one this time around.

- Cloth diapers bought/cleaned and ready to use. Finn wont, well hopefully wont fit into them for awhile so we've decided to use disposal until he grows into his cloth diapers.

- Clothes are all washed and organized

- His bedding is still being made but should be done this week (thanks mom for your help)

I could just use some prayer for a safe labor. My nervous have kicked in and I'm getting super anxious for a smoother labor, delivery and recovery this time around. Ruby's labor was very, very long and she didn't drop properly so I'm praying that my body will know what to do this time! The Dr. told me that Finn will definitely be larger than Ruby so that has added to my anxiety as well. Anyway I'm so blessed to have such a strong support system and I'm confident that this labor will be a much better one! Thanks for the prayers and hopefully little guy Finn will be here soon!!

This is Ruby's 3rd year going to the local pumpkin patch. Casey and I thoroughly enjoy taking her and watching her explore the land. This year we took advantage of the beautiful fall day and got some pictures of our Finn bump. I'm 35 weeks and really excited to meet our son. I didn't want to spend the money on getting maternity shots but, Jenna made me feel a little guilty about doing it with Ruby and not with Finn....so instead Casey just took some. They are not by any means professional but he captured the baby bump just perfectly for us.

This time was daddy's turn. We had a great 3 day weekend with the birthday boy and we ended it with a nice dinner in celebration of Casey's 27th birthday.

Yes I cropped myself out of this photo, and yes the shadow on the bottom is not the best...I just loved the matching faces. Ruby is quite the daddy's girl as of late. They have so much fun together.

I really can't believe she is almost 2! Today marks a huge experience for her....her 1st professional haircut! For some reason I'm really sad about this. I know she is in major need but, come on it's cutting all her sweet baby hair off. It's hard for a mama. I'll post some pictures of the new "Ruby" later today. Hopefully I don't cry :(

You can see the back portion of our backyard is now Gus and Dax's area. I'm excited to have a nice backyard for Ruby and Finn to play in next spring!!!

We still have a lot to do....plant shrubs to hide fence, plant shrubs to hide neighbors house (I like my privacy), fire pit, play area, and build a pergola over our patio for shade :)

It's a great since of accomplishment to get some much needed work down on our outside portion of our house. Casey really has worked very hard and I'm loving the progress :)

So it's been awhile, sorry. I guess we've been busy/lazy. Here is a quick re-cap from the last month...

(side note...I can't believe my little girl is going to be 2 in just a few weeks )

Since we blogged last Casey and I celebrated our 4th anniversary. We had a great relaxing weekend. We ate a lot and slept in!!! This pic is really old I just found it I think it was my brothers college graduation celebration. We've been together for so long! Love you babe
This last month we also took our first family camping trip. I hadn't been camping since high school so I was pretty excited. We had a ton of fun and Ruby enjoyed getting dirty. I think the experience would have been slightly better had the campground had showers and flushing toilets. We really roughed it :) Here's a couple pics. I always forgot my camera when we went down fishing. Ruby really enjoyed fishing with Daddy

Also Casey and his dad have been super busy working on our backyard. They've put up a fence to give our dogs a little dog run area, and they've prepared the yard to plant our grass seed on Sunday. I'm super excited to have a nice level yard for Ruby and Finn to play on next summer. I'll post pics of our growing grass :)

Pregnancy is going fine. I'm ready to meet the little man. I feel like everything keeps expanding, so I'm really ready to get back in shape. Dance is keeping me super busy, but I enjoy almost every moment of it.

Ruby is growing up. She is doing really well with potty training. It's just nap and bed time that seem to be the hardest for her. It's funny she can sing her ABC's, count to 20, identify almost every object she's ever been introduced to but, she can not seem to get her colors down. It's almost comical. When asked what color something is she usually says..."green, white, purple, red.." and then looks at you like "am I right?" So cute!

Here is a brief look into my (Jessica's) thoughts as of late....

1. I'm ONLY 25 weeks pregnant! I'm so ready for Finn to be here, and I have a long, long, long time to wait.

2. Mark my words....unless someone like Brad Paisley comes to the Jamboree next year I am NOT going. I can't stand the heat, I think I should move north, like way north....Alaska?!?!

3. Ruby's schedule is way off, which makes for one tired little lady. She's been waking up at least 2 times a night. Ugh, why?? Maybe she's growing....maybe she senses a baby coming....who knows, but I would love for her to go back to her old schedule :)

4. Ruby is 80% potty trained....only wears diapers to bed and sometimes when I'm too chicken to venture out with just panties. It's nice not having to change diapers all day long! She's really good at going #2 in potty chair, I haven't changed a #2 diaper in weeks :)

5. Some people..... a women whom I see very frequently (she works at bucks, so at least weekly) told me and I quote...."let me guess, you're due next week"........WHAT!! are you serious? I was speechless....I really hope I don't look that pregnant already I've got 3 more months people! She tried to cover up her bad comment by telling me that I carry really low, and it looks like I've dropped....hahahahaha

6. I hate painting! Thank goodness for my brother in-law. We've wanted to paint our house (outside) for awhile now and thanks to Trav it's done! And the best part is it cost us ...... $0 :) free paint and free labor yahoooo. Thanks again Travis, Tony and Eddie. We appreciate all your free labor :)

7. I'm pretty excited to get our backyard project started. It'll be nice to have a yard again.

8. Dance officially starts Monday! I'm really excited to start working with my new team. Although I'm having morning practices so we will see how much I like those :(

9. Did I mention I wish it was November :)

So for the past 2 weeks we have had lots of family visiting. First my aunt from Texas, then my cousins from California. We jammed lots of fun family outings the zoo, the coast, hiking, lots of BBQing, card games, swimming, and lots and lots of eating

I'm pretty sure Ruby went down the slide ummm...at least 12 times. She loved it. I think Casey enjoyed it just as much.
Look at those smiles. It does a mommy's heart good. I loved to watch Ruby and Casey play. Casey is such an amazing daddy. He has the energy to keep up with our crazy little lady :)

We really don't want to force her, in fear that she will refuse it all together. Any good advice out there? We are open to any helpful hints/tricks :)

Here is a poor quality picture of a picture taken with my phone of our little man. Still hasn't completely sank in that we are having a boy. Although I did go shopping for him. I must say girl clothes are a lot easier to find....I'm just 1.) way too picky 2.) way too cheap!!!

I'm starting to get ideas of how I want Ruby and Finn's room to look. Sharing should be interesting but, completely doable. Ruby still says it's a girl in my tummy and that she's having a "seester". Hopefully she'll grasp the idea sometime soon.

As far as the pregnancy goes it's getting much better!! I haven't thrown up in a week and a half (praise God)! Although I'm much more uncomfortable with this pregnancy than I was with Ruby. I must take a power nap or I am completely useless...thank goodness Ruby is still napping close to 3 hours everyday! My belly is really starting to stick out, and Finn is really making himself known with all his jabs and kicks. I just hope the 2nd half of this pregnancy goes as fast as the 1st!!! I'm really ready to meet my son :)

So yesterday I turned 25, holy cow 25! I feel so old :( Anyway my wonderful husband and beautiful daughter gave me the BEST gift. I woke up at 7 am to a very nice card that had a note in it. The note was actually detailed directions to a unknown location in Salem. It said I had to be there by 11am, and no other real clues to what I was going to do. Totally confused and a little anxious I tried really hard to figure it out but, decided it would be more fun to be totally surprised. I arrived at my location and it was a cute salon in downtown Salem. Still confused on what I was doing I went in and told the receptionist my name. Soon a very nice lady came out and told me she was ready for me...huh?! What am I doing...I still had no clue...pedi, massage, facial...what? Then I sat in her chair and I knew it....I was getting my hair DID :) I have always wanted to go to a salon and just let the (unknown to me) stylist do whatever they want/envision for my hair. (I just never/could never pay enough for those type of stylists that have the confidence/knowledge to do that :) ) ....anyway 2 hours later I walked out looking like a completely different women. It was like a mini makeover, just what my pregnant self needed :) After a year of growing my hair out it's all gone again!! I pretty sure I love it. It's super fun and sassy, just the way I like my hair :) Just a little shocking because I had no idea I was going to hack all my hair off and color it....I usually contemplate these things for weeks before hand.

Thank you PB. It truly was such a thoughtful, well thought out, something I have ALWAYS wanted to do, best gift for my BIG 25 birthday ever! I love you very much.

Sorry for the lack of blogging. Here's a little update...

We welcomed our sweet little niece Adah'Jane Pear on May 21st. Caylan is superwomen, honestly the strongest most determined individual I've ever met. Her labor terrified me. Not because she had a bad one, it was actually picture perfect. I was just terrified by the idea that in 6 months I will be going through that, and there is NOTHING I can do to stop it :). But at the same time it made me so excited to have our lil'pork. I just love, love, love the newborn phase.

I'm officially in my 2nd trimester. YAY! This pregnancy is so much different than my pregnancy with Ruby. My belly is already sticking out, seriously. I just don't get it. How big am I going to get!?!? Oh well :) I can't wait to see if we are having a boy or girl!?!?! I'm super anxious.

Casey works a ton!!! I miss him. I'm really starting to want to move closer to his work. Salem?!?! hmmm I don't know if I can do it.

Ruby is amazing. So INDEPENDENT!!! I have so many cute cute videos, but blogger wont let me upload :( She counts to 7 all by herself (sometimes 3 sounds like fries), she attempts her ABC's, but C and Y are the only 2 she gets every time. I'm constantly amazed at how many words she knows. She even puts words together :) Potty training is a work in progress. She wears her panties when we are home, and we haven't had any accidents yet. She did pee on her toilet yesterday morning, unfortunately she put the lid down and went on the lid. But hey, she got the idea right!?

The best weekend ever....I celebrated all weekend, it's mommy's weekend not just day! I can honestly say that being a mommy to my sweet Ruby, and lil'Pork is the most amazing, joyful, challenging, fun, rewarding things I could ever dream of doing. I'm blessed to have such a loving daughter, husband and family. I had a very special weekend, thank you for making me feel so loved.

We got to pour our concrete!!! Yesterday was the big day and we are so happy with the results. Thank you to everyone that helped and took time off work to come and slave over our back patio. We truly appreciate you and your hard work!!!

So Ruby and I went to the zoo one lovely Sunday (2 weeks ago) with my brother, his girlfriend Amanda, and my mom. The weather was beautiful and the zoo was crazy packed. Here's a couple of pictures of our day...

I was so paranoid of the crowd that I gave Ruby a "job" of pushing the wagon so I knew where she was at all times. She's so independent and insisted on walking the entire time and of course holding hands was out of the question.

(Here ya go Jenna)....

Come November 21st there should be a new addition to our little family!! That's right we are PREGNANT, and could not be more excited! We found out about a month ago, and just had our first ultrasound on Thursday (it's really nice to work at a pregnancy center, and use their services too). I'm 8 weeks along and the baby had a strong little heart beat of 152 bpm. Ruby will make a lovely big sister....we just can't wait to see if he's a he, or she's a she!? Either way we are so thankful :)

Casey had all of last week off, a whole week. This is what he did in between taking ruby to the park while i was in portland with my dance team...

the gate is moved back, we will have to much more parking room now!

Casey had his "weekend" Thursday and Friday, so nice since the weather was good....so he worked on our backyard project along with my dad, his dad, Abe, and Eddie. Here is what we have completed thus far. We are hoping to pour our concrete next Saturday, weather permitting.

The good: Dance season is almost over, and my girls competed at their last local competition before they go to state in 2 weeks... and they WON...by alot! It was such a great day for them. They looked amazing and made me so so proud...I actually cried. Good job ladies! (jenna i tried uploading the routine, but blogger wont let me do videos for some reason...sorry)

The bad...very bad: Ruby has had a fever since Friday. No other symptoms but just a nasty fever. Poor lady has never had a fever before so it is very new to all of us. She gets really bad at night. Her temp ranges from 100 to 104...so scary. All she says is "hot...hot...hot" it breaks my heart. If she is not better by tomorrow the doctor wants to see her.

The soon to be: Casey has been working hard with the help of Eddie, Pat, Gabe, Abe, my dad, and his dad we will soon have a back patio. We are pretty excited to finally have a place to hang out in our backyard. Casey has been working so hard and we hope to be pouring the concrete within a few weeks :)...PS- thanks for all the manpower boys, we really appreciate your help!

So we have another dog living with us currently. To make a long story short our neighbors (expecting a baby within the next month) had a male boxer dropped at their house by another friend who had just had a baby, and couldn't take care of the dog. Our neighbors didn't have the means or the space to care for the dog, and asked us to take him. Casey being the softy he is couldn't say no to the poor dog, so he is living with us temporarily. Although I think Ruby has grown quite attached to the furry friend, 3 dogs is a lot. I must admit for a purebred boxer this little guy is so mellow!!! Gus is still hyper beyond belief so it really is a nice change.

Dax is his name (not my choice) he's 6 months old and so sweet. He lets Ruby climb all over him and is somewhat trained...well he can sit, and is house broken. I have yet to hear him bark or growl, and he and Gus are already best buds. I'm thinking it will be hard to say goodbye to the little guy.

A dream come true....thanks to my wonderful husband I now have the vacuum of my dreams. It is absolutely amazing and I couldn't be more excited about it. I've wanted a Dyson since we moved to Lebanon almost 3 years ago, and thanks to my husband I am now a proud owner of a Dyson DC25 slim!!!

Last weekend our little family got invited to Sunriver for the night by Casey's good friend . For those of you that know Casey's work schedule knows that he never has weekends off, and he has to request time off months in advance. So we pretty much figured we would have to pass this invitation up, but....Casey's work came through and gave him the days off...so we packed up quickly and headed over the pass. It was a much needed get-away for the VandenBos Family. Although we missed Princess Addie's 2nd Birthday party (which Ruby would have loved, she is still wearing the crown and carrying the princess wond around every day...thanks Addie), our little family really never gets to get out of town too often thanks to crazy work/dance schedules so it really was needed. Anyway here are a few photos... the house was gorgeous and the weather was beautiful..my camera died, and I forgot the charger so I only got a few photos :(

Potty...

Ruby woke up from her nap at her usual time, I asked her like I normally do if she had to go potty, and her response was "Yea!"....so we went, and sure enough she went....POOP even. Oh happy day!! I'm hoping this may be a breakthrough. She was so proud of herself. She loved looking at it. She kept opening the potty lid and plugging her nose, saying "phewwww".

Casey and I took Ruby, and met some friends at the park this afternoon...fun, right? Well kinda. I decided to take Ruby down the BIG slide. Please note, slick work out pants, ugg boots, metal slide and loose gravel are a bad combination for this mama. As we approached the end of the very steep slide I noticed the speed at which Ruby and I were traveling was a little fast, and as I literally flew off the bottom of the slide I could not seem to get my feet to move quick enough to catch myself. So if you can imagine I'm stumbling trying to stop myself (and not drop Ruby), gravel is flying, lots of high pitch squeals, Ruby still in my arms (not sure how), and all I could do is fall to my knees so I wouldn't land on my little babe!...all Casey could do was laugh and reach a helping arm out that really looked more like a stiff arm. I think he thought I was gonna take him out too. Please remember I was at a public park with many spectators...so embarrassing!!!! (it might be one of those "gotta be there" moments to think its funny, but sharing the story makes me feel a little less silly)

I'm pretty sure it was way more painful to my pride than anything else...I definitely have a "most embarrassing moment" now!
can't really see the gravel indention, but they're there. I'm pretty white so if you see red that's from the gravel. I haven't had a scratch on my knees since I was like 12, seriously who trips and falls as an adult? I even snagged up my pants :(

Sorry for the lack of blogging lately. Thanks anonymous for reminding me of my job duties. It's really been pretty mellow at the VandenBos home front. Here is a quick update...

-Ruby is on an awesome schedule now that Christmas is over

-Ruby is obsessed with Shrek, yes Shrek the big ugly ogre. I've had the movies since they came out and Ruby has discovered them. She brings the DVD to me and says "watch...watch...peeeas"

-I'm pretty sure I read the same 20 books to Ruby every single morning...she likes consistency I guess. She has well over a hundred books to choose from but the same ones seem to be her favorites.

-Ruby is pretty interested in her potty chair :) She has to sit on it every time we go into the bathroom.

-Nalia is by far Ruby's favorite little person

-Ruby went into the nursery last Sunday with no tears at all!!! HOORAY

- Casey works a ton, and when he has days off they seem to consist of the same activities...work in the yard, clean my car, sweep the garage, mop the floors. He really is so helpful! Oh and he has been going to the snow a bunch too with the boys.

- My life, although I try for it no to be, is consumed with dance. Let's face it teenage girls are needy.

-I love staying home with Ruby as much as I can, I love volunteering at PAC, and I can't wait for big changes in 2009

Maybe I'll post some pics later. I need to take full advantage of nap time...I'm busy super cleaning/organizing my house right now

Tonight we embarked on our annual Christmas caroling adventure. This year we went to an assisted living home for the elderly here in Lebanon and spread some Christmas cheer. We showered the grandmas and grandpas with nice warm socks and sang some great Christmas songs. Some of them even sang and danced with us. I'm a huge fan of traditions and giving back to our community as much as we can. This was a perfect way...they loved to see Ruby and Ruby was equally as excited to see them and sing to them.

Casey's best friend JJ got married on Saturday up in Portland. The weekend was super fun, and full of lots of memories. We had a blast. The wedding was at the World Trade Center in downtown Portland. this afternoon Ruby grabbed the channel changer and decided she wanted to turn the tv on. I got it all on camera...she was super determined to figure it out. She turned it on and changed it to LA Ink...Casey will be so proud when he sees these. She has an appreciation for tats too .

We got in the spirit a little early this year. I usually put our tree up the day after Thanksgiving but I was so excited for it this year since Ruby could help I decided not too wait. Plus we have a busy Thanksgiving weekend.

We finally have an almost "put together" kitchen. The last thing needed is our fridge. We just got our new stove and dishwasher...funny thing is I was so excited for the new stove, but I've only used it twice now (we've had them for a week and a half...what?!)

detox update...

its not happening... after some thought and good convo with the peps who know me best i realize that a mild diet change should do the job. see i'm one of those unlucky individuals that get horrible migraines very often (like once to twice a month, and when i say migraine i mean vomiting, crawling across the floor because i can't stand up sick...i don't use that word lightly). anyway my neurologist has told me many times that any noticeable change in my routine, or "life" basically, can trigger a migraine (stress, sleep, diet, exercises etc...). so not eating and cutting out caffeine is just not a smart decision for me. also not eating = less energy and i'm a mom by day and an dance coach to 16 teenagers by night....i need energy. instead i'm going to limit my sugar intake....that means no more mochas :( it will be challenging but i'm sure i can do it. i plan on eating more raw foods and less carbs. lets face it i eat a ton of carbohydrates. also i'm going to eat more often, i'm definitely guilty of eating not enough which we all know results in unwanted weight gain, and a jacked up metabolism. so i'm telling you all this so i feel like i have some sort of accountability. thanks for your help and advice :) peace

Life has been full of lots of play dates lately. Ruby absolutely loves to play with other babes and I love to watch. She is such a ham, I'm not sure who she got it from but boy does this girl love to be the center of attention. She is so silly. There's nothing better in life than watching your child play and laugh with other children.

On anther note Ruby is seriously picking up words and actions left and right. It surprises me everyday at how quickly she learns things. Her vocabulary is growing by the day. She really focuses and tries to say almost any word I say to her....better watch my mouth :)

To detox, or not to detox...

that's my question. I'm struggling with the decision. I've been researching it a lot and it seems like for every positive aspect there is a couple negatives too. Anyway I'm looking into the master cleanse...anyone have any suggestions for me? I'm not someone that can fast very long...I get pretty sick to my stomach when I don't eat pretty easy :(. I haven't tried to detox in a little over 3 years but here are my reasons why I think I need to...

I'm super tired all the time, even when I sleep 8 hours

I've ate more fast food since the birth of Ruby than I have in my entire life...not joking

I absolutely have to have my coffee every morning or I am completely useless

I've been taking my migraine medication at least once a week since I quit nursing

I wanna jump start a "new" healthier lifestyle/eating habits but I'm one of those people that need motivation (hence the detox cleaning me out...literally :) I wont wanna put yucky stuff back into my system after I worked so hard to get it out)

I've started to prepare myself for a detox (weaning myself off caffeine)...I would ideally like to start my detox November 1st if I do it. Anyway if any of you have something that would help me to make my decision/experience easier I would appreciate it mucho! Thanks

This is our first family tradition that we have gotten to enjoy twice now with Ruby. It blew my mind as we walked around the pumpkin patch and Ruby was cruising around all by herself, exploring, feeling, looking, and sometimes even tasting (eww) the environment. Last year when we took her here she didn't even open her eyes. It really made me realize just how fast they grow and change.
